Karen L. Salzman, MD

Associate Professor, Department of Radiology

Karen Salzman, MD, associate professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Utah School of Medicine, is a neuroradiologist with a special interest in neuro- oncology, head and neck tumors, and oncologic imaging. At Huntsman Cancer Institute, she works closely with a multidisciplinary team of neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, neuro-oncologists, and other medical oncologists to provide comprehensive care to patients with brain tumors and head and neck cancers.

Her research interests include clinical investigations of primary brain tumors and head and neck cancers, with special interest in advanced imaging techniques such as MR spectroscopy, and how these techniques better evaluate brain tumor response to radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Additional research interests include improving diagnostic imaging of primary tumors to better define preoperative diagnoses.

Salzman received her MD from the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed her residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center and M.D. Anderson. She also completed a two-year neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Utah before joining Huntsman Cancer Institute in July 2001.
