Brenda Bass, PhD

Distinguished Professor, Department of Biochemistry

Brenda Bass, PhD, is a distinguished professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Utah, an adjunct professor in the Department of Human Genetics, and a member of the Nuclear Control of Cell Growth and Differentiation Program.

Bass is interested in how cells produce small RNAs such as micro RNAs and small interfering RNAs, as well as the functions of these RNAs in the regulation of gene expression. Her research will shed light into why certain genes are misexpressed in cancer, and provide information important to harnessing small RNAs for therapeutic means.

Bass received a bachelor’s degree from Colorado College, Colorado Springs, and a PhD from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
